Decorate the envelopes

Clara talked about sending Christmas cards yesterday, so I won't repeat what she's said as we send cards to clients also. I send them all on behalf of my husband.

One thing we do to make them a little more special is include a Christmas sticker on the outside of the envelope. My kids have a lot of fun sticking these on. For extra special customers, they may put more than one sticker on. I make it clear that the stickers must not go over the clients address, the return address or the space where the stamp goes.

I pick them up at cheap shops in the lead up to Christmas as well as in the post Christmas sales. I like ones that are small and shiny as they are not obtrusive and still look good.

This is a small thing that we like to do that helps get us in the Christmas spirit, gets the kids involved and helps things be a little more special.

I hope this is helpful for your business. Blog again soon.

Child Swap

School holidays is usually a really busy time for hubby and his business. So there is a lot of invoicing and paperwork to be done. As much as I would love to scale back on work during school holidays, it's just not possible.

One way I manage to get everything done is to organise a child swap. My kids go and play at a friends house one day, and their friends come to our house on another day. Even on the days when all the kids are at our house, I manage to get a lot of work done!

All the kids are able to entertain each other while I get some work done, although instead of working in the office, I bring my laptop into the living room so I'm available if the kids need me. I also have a supply of snacks available for the inevitable cries of "I'm hungry".

On the days when the kids are at their friends house, I enjoy a wonderful, quiet day, and work hard to get as much done as I possibly can, ready to spend time with the kids on their return.

A child swap is a lot cheaper than enrolling them in a holiday program, and they seem to have a lot more fun too.

I hope this is helpful. Blog again soon

Caylie :)

Caylie here, dropping in on Saturday night…

Hey, I'm Caylie. I don't have my own business, my husband does and I work at home doing all his admin and bookkeeping. A few people have suggested I set myself up as a Virtual Assistant, offering the same services to other businesses, but I'm not sure about that…

I've been learning a lot about bookkeeping and customer service and marketing, with the main goal of helping hubby grow his business – one of the main reasons I don't want to start out on my own. My energy is going to growing this business, and juggling kids and helping out at school.

I'm not sure how useful I'll be on this blog, but I'm sure there are some useful tips I can share – like having good accounting software, and a good back up (I'll blog more about this in a Monday "Things I Learned the Hard Way" post.)

The football is finally over, kids are in bed and it's time to relax with a glass of wine and a movie with hubby. Blog again soon.
