Card Making Day

I love the school holidays. It's great not having to get up and wear my horrible school uniform, and having a break from study. I still have some homework to do, but I don't have to do it every day.

The best thing about the holidays is having a card making day with Mum, and leaving our things set up so we can make a few more cards whenever we have some spare time. We try and have at least one card making day a week in the holidays. This means my brothers go to a friends house and it's just me and Mum.

It's really cool. Usually we put some cool music on or a movie on TV and we sit and make cards. There's a mixture of stocking up on our popular designs and creating new ones. Most times, by the end of the holidays, we have a good amount of stock to sell to keep up going until our regular, monthly card making days. It's also a special time with just me and Mum, though sometimes friends will come over to join in the fun.

This helps us keep up our stock of cards during the school term as well as having a lot of fun doing something we love.

Mum is also teaching me how to do the accounting, and the other things that are to do with running a business. But the best bit is spending time with Mum making cards.

Hey, from Hayley

Mum decided that I should be the one to write our blog post. She's correcting my spelling to make sure it's done right and not with the same spelling I use in texts or on Facebook.

I'm Hayley and I'm 15. Me and Mum make and sell greeting cards. We started a few years ago when I needed money to go overseas with school. The cards were popular and we had fun so we kept going.

Mostly we sell cards to friends and family and at markets. Now that Mum has finally let me go on Facebook (more than 2 years after I turned 13…) I think we should sell from there too. I just need to convince Mum.

We make cards from Mums old scrapbooking stuff and have made custom cards as well as designs we make from our own ideas.

That's it from me now. I'd better start my homework before school tomorrow!

If you have some tips for selling on Facebook please let me know, as well as tips on how I can convince Mum that this is a good idea.
